Your Essential Spring Home Maintenance Checklist

Now that the entire country has crawled out of the winter freeze and into the warm temperatures of spring, it marks the perfect time of year to give your home a little much-needed attention. Staying on top of maintenance projects throughout the year ensures that no major issues occur since you can catch them before they get too big. Not only that but it allows you to extend the lifespan of various items simply by taking care of them.

With that in mind, here’s a handy spring home maintenance checklist you can refer to.

Clean the Gutters

Here’s a maintenance job that is extremely important to tackle in the spring, as it will have lasting impact the rest of the year. This is a great time to clean out the gutters and ensure that all the leaves that fell back in the fall and any debris is cleared away. Should your gutters become clogged, they won’t allow for proper drainage from the roof, which can then cause water to pool in areas that aren’t desirable.

Be sure to adhere to safety tips when cleaning your gutters, to ensure you don’t have a fall or an accident.

Maintain Your Windows

Windows play an important role in your home and should most definitely appear on your spring maintenance checklist. In the spring, it’s a good idea to inspect your windows and the frames looking for wear and tear, missing weather stripping, cracks, and damage to the frame or window itself. If you find any issues, they should be addressed immediately to ensure the inside of your home stays comfortable and dry.

Replace Air Filters

This is also a great time to change filters in your home, most notably the air-conditioner filter. It won’t be long until you turn it on again, so you want to be sure it’s well-maintained and ready to go. You may even want to turn it on just to be sure all is good.

Rake the Leaves

Despite the fact you may have already raked back in the fall, there’s no doubt that more leaves and debris have fallen on the lawn since then. This is the perfect time to get rid of that ground covering, fluff up the grass, and allow the rain and oxygen to get into the roots. Just be careful not to rake too vigorously, as the grass is damp and delicate at this time of year.

Power-Wash the Exterior of Your Home

Spring is ideal for all those power-washing jobs too, making sure all looks fresh and ready to go. Some of the items you can clean with your power washer include decking, fencing, an outdoor shed, patios, siding, windows, and more.

Stain or Refinish Wooden Decking

If you have a wooden deck that’s looking a little worse for wear, you may want to breathe new life into by staining or refinishing it. Doing that now, early in the spring, means you’ll get to enjoy it the rest of the year.

Tip Top Shape

By using this checklist, you’ll be able to get your home in tip top shape for spring and summer.
