3 Tips For Modernizing The Design and Decor Of Your Home

If you’ve been living in the same home for years, there’s a good chance that you haven’t taken the time to update its look in awhile. While this can be a great way to save money, to really have your home function how you need it to and to be prepared in the event that you want to eventually sell it soon, it’s a good idea to make some design and decor changes that will bring in a more modernized look.

To show you how this can easily be done, here are three tips for modernizing the design and decor of your home.

Embrace Contrasting Colors

So much of modern home design has to do with the color scheme you choose to use.

According to Chelsey Bowen, a contributor to HGTV, the most you’re able to choose contrasting colors in your home design, the more modern your home will start to appear. Obviously, the most contrasting of colors that you can go with is black and white. But while these are usually seen as the more urban of colors, which is a very modern idea, you don’t have to stick with just black and white in order to have a modern-looking home.

Ideally, you should bring in one or two other colors that you use as accents throughout your space. But by trying to keep black and white as the main colors you use, you’ll make your home design and decor look much more modern.

Get Rid Of Your Carpeting

For many people, having a modern home style means clean lines and hard surfaces. Because of this, you won’t find many modern homes that embrace a lot of carpeting on their floors.

If your home currently has carpet throughout, or even just in the main living space, Chad Schroder, a contributor to Apartment Therapy, shares that by removing the carpeting, you can really see a big difference in the modernity of your space. Not only will this make your rooms appear more modern, by hard flooring can often be easier to clean and is generally more hygienic, too.

Choose Lightweight Textiles

In general, the heavier the textiles are that you choose to use throughout your home, the more dated or traditional your styling will be. With this in mind, Jae Curtis, a contributor to Freshome.com, advises that you choose more lightweight textiles if you’re trying to make your home more modern.

By getting rid of heavy drapes and choosing other textiles that are more light and airy, the design and decor of your home will become much more modern.

If you’re wanting to make your home more modern in its design and decor, consider using the tips mentioned above to help you learn how you can accomplish this.
